Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Executive Board elections 2021

About

The Executive Board is the governing body of the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY). Every three years the APY Executive Board elections are held.

The next elections will take place in 2021, with Voting Day to take place on Wednesday 4 August 2021.

The Board consists of 14 members. There are seven electorates within the APY Lands and a male and a female will be elected to represent each electorate on the APY Executive Board.

It is not compulsory to vote in the APY Executive Board elections, but all eligible Aṉangu are encouraged to vote and to consider nominating for a position on the Board. The Board makes many important decisions about your Lands, including your roads, buildings, mining, and pastoral businesses. Voting and nominating helps to keep your community strong.

In order to vote and nominate you must be correctly enrolled. This means that your name and your correct address are on a list called the voters roll.

The voters roll for this supplementary election closed at 5pm on Friday 30 April 2021.

It is now too late to put your name on the voters roll or update your address for these Board elections, but you should enrol or update your enrolment for other elections coming soon.

The easiest way to enrol or update your enrolment is online:

Voting

To vote in the APY Executive Board elections you must be:

  • Aṉangu
  • 18 years of age or over
  • Enrolled in one of the APY Lands electorates.

How to vote

Voting is conducted by way of an electronic touch screen. An eligible elector is presented with the photos of the candidates for their electorate (there may be a male and female election or only a male or female election).

The elector touches the photo of the candidate they wish to vote for on the touch screen (male candidate for a male election and/or female candidate for a female election). Once they have voted for their candidate/s the system records their vote/s and also prints a ballot paper for them to confirm their candidate selection/s.

If they are happy with their selection/s on the printed ballot paper they fold the ballot paper and place it in the ballot box and voting is completed.
