DEER, Rachel Louise

I have a desire to serve my community and am eager to make decisions for the betterment of the entire Franklin Harbour district, providing a young voice to the local council and easily conversing with all age groups in the local council area. I have been living and working on the family farm 'Winter Springs' for 24 years. I am married to Martin with 2 adult children, Jessica and Matthew. I work at the local Pharmacy and most people would know me from my 16 years of employment. I achieved my Life-Membership to the Cowell Netball Club in 2010 and have served on many committees in various executive positions, including the Eastern Eyre Cricket Association for 11 years and Eastern Eyre Netball Association for 10 years. Coaching and Umpiring Netball have given me the opportunity to make friends and contribute to the wider community, something I still enjoy.

VERWEY Bill Photo

VERWEY, Bill

The Yankalilla District is a great place to live. Julie and I have had a home in Carrickalinga since 1977. Our children and grandchildren have grown up here. I have always been passionate about environmentally sustainable business and employment growth. The most satisfying years of my career were helping to create sustainable employment opportunities in small and regional towns. I believe my experience could assist the Council in identifying new employment opportunities in the region. Our District is known for its natural beauty and its cultural heritage. Protecting the character of this District and our quality of life while developing new opportunities is very important to me. I support opportunities where the community is fully engaged in the process of developing strategies for the future in collaboration with Council. I welcome the opportunity to represent you on the Council.

Please vote for me and support my vision for families, nature and the future. As a successful candidate I will promote family friendly initiatives, encourage more nature enhancing town planning and consider the short and long consequences in decisions and actions. I will lobby hard on behalf of local families for better access to existing services and to increase services. I will also advocate for more accessible green spaces while considering their sustainability. The first item on my agenda will be to finalise a permanent location for the Community Library and return its current location to its original purpose as a community entertainment space. I will also push for a more extensive program of bushfire fuel reduction on the verges of both Council and State Roads throughout our District. I embrace the large variety of circumstances and situations throughout our area and will consult accordingly upon election.

MARKS, TJ

Growing up in a rural town in a large family I understand how important our 'village' is. My husband Pete and I love raising our two children Jack and Mexie here while enjoying every aspect of our beautiful surrounds and beaches. Our small business has enabled us to meet both residents and tourists alike, as well as bringing people together. We have been showered with support and I would love the opportunity to give back and serve this community as it is so close to my heart. I believe we have a strong, forward thinking council and it is a very exciting time to be on board! I have no personal agenda, except to support decisions which are beneficial to the community. Over the past 10 years I have served on various community groups including The NNYE Pageant, The Fleurieu Coast Business Association and The Yank Youth Advisory Committee.

MAYNARD, Ken

Having already served two terms on Council and undertaken various roles within it, I believe that my experience and links to the community make me well positioned to be a very effective member of Council. I strongly believe Council has an important role to perform in maintaining the community's unique quality of lifestyle and general wellbeing. Council needs to mindful that its costs are kept to a minimum and that its undertakings represent value for rate payers money. Council needs to be transparent in its affairs and responsive to community issues in a timely manner If elected to Council my key priority will be to help make improvements in infrastructure while maintaining the integrity of existing assets and be proactive in seeking the best possible outcomes for ratepayers. NEWMAN, Jason

I am a proud Moorak resident, where I live with my partner Melissa and our four children. I've had a wide variety of experience within the government and business sectors, operating my own large scale hospitality businesses for over 15 years. I was fortunate enough to be awarded a Telstra Small Business Award in 2012 and was an inaugural member of the NT Business Advisory Committee. I am currently the interim chairman of the NYE Festival Committee and a committee member on several other sporting and volunteer organisations in the region. If elected, I will bring a pragmatic and common sense approach to council. I will make evidence based decisions and engage with ratepayers to make sure council is operating in their best interest. For me Local Government operates best when it works within its core business of Economic Development, Roads, Rates and Rubbish.
