The Shape Your World campaign is now underway, with local councils beginning to promote the 2026 council elections across South Australia.
Led by the Local Government Association of South Australia (LGA) and the Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA), the campaign encourages South Australians to consider standing for election and playing a role in shaping their local community.
The campaign aims to inspire people from a broad range of backgrounds to step forward as candidates in the 2026 Local Government elections.
Across South Australia’s 68 councils, more than 1,300 elected members make decisions that affect everyday community life, including local infrastructure, planning, parks, libraries and community services.
The LGA are managing the nomination phase of this campaign and ECSA are focusing on enrolment and voting phases.
Local government is where decisions are made closest to the community, Whether it’s improving local parks, supporting community events, planning for growth or advocating for better infrastructure, council members play a direct role in shaping the places we live.
The Shape Your World campaign is about encouraging everyday South Australians to realise they don’t need to be a career politician to make a difference – they simply need a passion for their community.
Council elections are a key part of our democratic system and give communities the chance to choose who will represent their local interests.
Voting in South Australian council elections is conducted by postal ballot and for those eligible via telephone, making it easy for residents to participate and have their say in the future of their local community.
