The electoral disability advisory committee is involved in shaping how South Australians living with disability are enabled to participate in democracy. Its purpose is to:
- Provide feedback and work in partnership to deliver more inclusive and accessible state and local government elections.
- Co-design and distribute information about voting to people with disability, carers and support workers.
- Create and implement a disability access and inclusion plan.
- Identify opportunities to conduct research on the needs of people with disability in regard to voting.
- Learn about initiatives being developed in other sectors for people with disability.
Voting is a powerful right and an obligation, and the Electoral Commission SA (ECSA) is genuinely committed to making sure the voices of South Australians living with disability are heard and directly influence how we support people to have their say in elections.
What is involved in being a member?
- Members are appointed for a 2-year term.
- Committee meetings are held at least twice per year.
- Political neutrality is an important part of ECSA’s role in the community. Committee members must agree to not being politically active in connection to their role on the committee.
If you are interested in being involved please contact David Williams on 08 7424 7403.
