History

The district was created in 1936 and became effective at the 1938 elections.

Name origin: The family name of the wife of Thomas Whistler, owner of land in Unley which was laid out around 1857 or after the English town of Unley.

Size: Approximately 13.0 km²

Location: Unley is south of the Adelaide central business district and parklands, and is largely a residential area.

Key boundary changes compared to 2010: Unley gains parts of the suburbs of Wayville and Goodwood.
