History

The district was created at the 1991 redistribution and first represented in 1993.

Name origin: This district is named after, and a commemoration of, the local Kaurna Aboriginal people who occupied the Adelaide Plains until the end of the 19th century. The mobile groups making up the Kaurna people had a well-developed pattern of guardianship of the land.

Size: Approximately 52.7 km²

Location: The district of Kaurna is a coastal seat south-west of Adelaide and takes in some of the more southerly beach suburbs of the outer metropolitan area.

Key boundary changes compared to 2010:
Kaurna loses the suburb of Old Noarlunga, part of the suburb of Christies Beach, and the remainder of the suburb of Noarlunga Downs.
